The Land Archive was founded on a simple but hard-won truth — the records exist. They're in county courthouses, federal archives, probate filings, and tax rolls. They've been there for over a century. Most families just dont know how to find them.
Our founder knows because she did it herself.
What began as personal ancestry research led to the discovery of a land patent issued in 1884 to a formerly enslaved ancestor — and ultimately to a federal lawsuit representing his descendants against 17 defendants in the Arkansas Western District Court. Every deed, every transfer, every parcel number, every irregularity — documented and presented.
That experience revealed something bigger than one family's land. It revealed a pattern. And a purpose.
The Land Archive exists because her story isn't unique. Thousands of families have one just like it. Most of them just haven't found it yet.
We find it for them.
